Convicted paedophile Iain Wares to be sentenced in child abuse case

CAPE TOWN - Convicted paedophile Iain Wares is back at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he is expected to be sentenced for child sexual abuse.

The offences were committed during the 1980s.

The 87-year-old was convicted in March 2026 following a case that has drawn renewed attention to allegations spanning decades.

Wares is also wanted in the United Kingdom in connection with more than 90 alleged sexual offences against children.

However, the case has been marked by delays linked to Wares’ health, prompting concern from child rights organisations over the pace of proceedings.

Friday’s sentencing hearing could mark a significant step towards bringing the long-running case to a close.
