BOKSBURG – Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has issued a stern warning to the killers who gunned down two police officers in Reiger Park on Friday night.
The two officers, from the Anti-Gang Unit, were responding to a shooting where two civilians were shot when they were ambushed.
Dimpane promised the families of the young constables, as well as other officers, that authorities would be hot on the heels of the perpetrators.
“To the families of our fallen anti-gang unit members, your loved ones served this country with courage and they made the ultimate sacrifice. Their deaths will not be forgotten. Their killers will not be allowed to escape justice. We will pursue them. We will find them.
“Our members must know that the organization will never leave them to face these threats alone. We will provide the necessary resources and operational support to ensure that those who threaten our members and our communities understand that there will be consequences. Police safety is non-negotiable,” she said.
Police are urging Reiger Park residents to come forward with any information that could help with the investigation.
“Police cannot do this alone. Someone here knows something. Someone here knows who's responsible for these killings. Someone saw something. Someone heard something. Someone knows where are these suspects. And someone knows where are these firearms. And we want our firearms back.
“We need you to speak up. Do not allow fear to give criminals greater power over communities. When communities remain silent, criminals become emboldened. We therefore call on you, we call on community leaders, residents, businesses, religious organizations and all abiding people of Reiger Park to stand up and stand with the police and work with us. We will protect those that stand for the law,” Dimpane added.
