Criminal charges laid against Suliman Carrim

PRETORIA - Criminal charges have been laid against controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim for failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The charges, according to the Commission's spokesperson, Jermy Michaels, were laid last week following an instruction from the Commission's chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

Carrim was ordered to testify in person in August or undergo an independent medical assessment, but has done neither.

The case has now been referred to the Commission Task Team, which is led by the police.

Judge Madlanga had previously indicated that the decision to open a case was aimed at protecting the integrity of the inquiry.
