Criminal charges possible in matric exam leak

PRETORIA - Criminal action may be considered for over 18s implicated in the 2025 matric exams breach.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube was releasing the findings of a probe into the leak.

At least 40 people were involved in the leak of Maths, Physics, and English papers.

The Task Team investigations are continuing, but is confident only those 40 were involved.

Standard sanctions for the pupils involved include being barred from writing for up to three exam periods.

But criminal action has not been ruled out.

A DBE HR official who accessed the papers and is a parent to the first implicated pupil is person zero for the scandal.

But someone else may have assisted the mother.

Despite the leaks, uMalusi has deemed the 2025 matric results credible.

The results will be released next week.
