DA veteran Douglas Gibson dies aged 82

JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance is mourning the passing of party veteran Douglas Gibson.

In a statement, DA leader John Steenhuisen describes Gibson as a consummate politician and public servant who will be remembered as a leading voice on developments in and around the DA.

Gibson, a retired attorney, politician and diplomat, served as South Africa's ambassador to Thailand between 2008 and 2012.

Previously, he had served as chief whip of the Democratic Alliance from 1999 to 2007, among other party positions. 

Gibson was 82.
