According to an AmaBhungane report, thousands of parolees have disappeared from Correctional Services supervision shortly after their release back into society.
The report alleged that almost 28,000 parolees, including violent offenders cannot be located.
The department says almost 53,000 parolee and probationers are under Community Corrections supervisions.
They are subject to various forms of supervision, that includes office reporting, home visits, employment verification and rehabilitation intervention.
In cases where the parolees cannot be traced, says Nxumalo, it is often the absence of guardians or certain information not properly communicated to the communities to report the parolees should they need help.
