JOHANNESBURG - Day five of the attempted murder trial of alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi Cat Matlala and four others began with the state's second witness, private security officer Christiaan Sheppard, taking the stand.
Sheppard assisted the police in apprehending alleged hitman Musa Kekana in April 2024 in connection with the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
The firearms retrieved during this arrest linked Kekana and accused two, Tiego Mabusela, to the attempted hits on Tebogo Thobejane, Dj Vettys and businessman Joe Sibanyoni.

A trial within a trial is now underway to determine the admissibility of the evidence the state wants to use, such as admissions, the firearms and cellphone records retrieved during Kekana's arrest.
Kekana's lawyer has objected to the state using this evidence.
Advocate Riaan Gissing says it will violate Kekana's rights to a fair trial.
Shepaard returns to the witness box on Monday for cross-examination in the trial within a trial.
