DURBAN - Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla's defence has challenged the credibility of a key state witness.
It contends that technical failures in a document submitted to the court by social media law expert Emma Sadleir justify throwing out her testimony.
Zuma-Sambudla is on trial for allegedly using social media to incite terrorism and public violence.
She maintains that she had no role in the unrest that caused severe economic damage and loss of life.
Sadleir admits that the document she submitted to the court was not an expert report but a memorandum prepared for her client, the Hawks.
She's rejected the defence’s argument that her testimony should be dismissed, maintaining that her evidence is valid and that the inferences should be subjected to legal argument.
But the defence contends that her evidence should be set aside because if the state is indeed presenting her as an expert witness, her testimony does not meet the required standards.
The trial has been postponed to 13 April 2026 for further hearing.
