Deputy mayor in hot water after firing gun during Umgidi celebrations

PLETTENBERG BAY - The Deputy Mayor of Bitou Municipality, which includes Plettenberg Bay, is in hot water.

Nokuzola Kolwapi was caught on camera firing a gun to celebrate her son's Umgidi.

The video shows Kolwapi firing the gun several times as initiates were welcomed home in KwaNokuthula.

Police are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made as yet.

The ANC is calling for swift action against the Ikhwezi Political Movement leader.

It says public representatives are entrusted with upholding the law and must behave better.

Kolwapi's party is yet to respond to the incident.

EFF leader Julius Malema was found guilty recently of a similar offence.

He will be sentenced for the crime early next year.
