Didiza faces no-confidence motion from EFF

JOHANNESBURG - Parliament is expected to debate a motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza.

The motion was brought by the EFF, which accuses Didiza of failing to protect Parliament.

Didiza chose not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s interdict application, which was granted in his favour and temporarily halted public hearings of the impeachment inquiry.

The debate is expected to take place on the virtual platform instead of a physical plenary session in Parliament.

The ANC's Chief Whip in the National Assembly, Mdumiseni Ntuli, said that his party is opposed to the motion by the EFF to remove Didiza as Speaker.

"We believe that this, without any merit, is devoid of any principle," Ntuli said.

"The Speaker acted correctly."
