JOHANNESBURG - Discovery medical aid members across the country are outraged after receiving unexpected demands to repay thousands of rand.
This is for what’s been described as a pharmacy billing error.
Members are being told to reimburse Discovery for medicine claims allegedly paid out incorrectly.
Some are facing debts as much as R80,000.
One client said he owes Discovery R49,000.
"I've got no intention of paying any of that money back," he said.
"I think had I been made aware of the processing error in a timely way, I would have certainly dealt with it then and there."
Mark Hyman from MediCheck said more than 800 members have approached them for assistance.
He said a letter of demand was sent to Discovery and a meeting will be held in the week.
