DNA tests link some suspects to Emmanuel Mbense murder

JOHANNESBURG - DNA tests have connected some suspects to Emmanuel Mbense's murder.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has told the Madlanga Commission that a link has been found to some known individuals.

Mbense was murdered in his Brakpan home in 2022 and later dumped in a dam.

IPID senior investigator Nomsa Masuku says police requested that witnesses who had previously provided warning statements submit their DNA following the assassination of Marius van der Merwe.

Masuku confirmed that the individuals cooperated and their DNA samples were compared with a control sample from Mbense’s case, yielding a positive result.

She has attached the forensic report, but requested that the information remain confidential to avoid undermining the ongoing criminal trial.
