According to the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Service spokesperson, William Ntladi, the driver, who was the only person in the truck, managed to escape the burning truck with minor burn and trauma injuries.

Ntladi said once firefighters were alerted of the incident, they rushed to the scene to intervene.

“A scene and risk assessment was conducted. N12 freeway westbound: all three lanes had to be temporarily closed for the duration of the rescue and fire ground operations. N3 freeway southbound, three of the four lanes had to be temporarily closed for traffic as well,” he added.

Ntladi said he anticipates that the closure of both freeways will last until late in the afternoon.
