Drunk driving crackdown sees thousands arrested

CAPE TOWN - Transport Minister Barbara  Creecy has released the mid-festive season preliminary road safety report.

At least 431 fatalities have been recorded since the start of December.

Last year during the same period, at least 545 deaths were recorded.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation says many of these deaths were caused by drunk driving.

Since the start of the season, around 2,300 motorists have been arrested for drunk driving, 236 for speeding, and 26 for attempting to bribe officers.
