Eastern Cape, KZN lead voter registration activity

JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says over 90 percent of registrations over the weekend were conducted in person at stations.

Preliminary reports show KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape led nationwide registration activity, followed by Gauteng and Limpopo.

Young people and first-time voters made up the majority of visits. Physical applications closed at 5pm on Sunday.

But eligible voters can still register or update on the IEC's online platforms.

The Commission is expected to announce the outcomes of the registration weekend later today.
