KUGOMPO CITY - Eastern Cape communities are struggling after heavy downpours wreaked havoc in the province.
Hundreds have been displaced and accommodated in shelters in Nelson Mandela Bay and other areas.
More rains and a snow are expected on Friday.
Residents of Humansdorp say their homes have become uninhabitable whenever disaster strikes.
The latest floods hit just weeks after the Kouga Local Municipality suffered its worst rains in nearly a century.
Residents of Sewende Laan say their homes became indoor lakes within hours of heavy rain.
Bettie du Toit, who lives with her family of eight, said her home has flooded multiple times. She sees no solution in sight to the ongoing problem.
Humansdorp, Jeffrey’s Bay, and St. Francis Bay all fall within the Kouga Local Municipality.
The Democratic Alliance-led council says the floods are a double blow on efforts to speed up service delivery. Officials are still tallying the cost of last month’s disaster, which caused about R200-million in damages.
Hattingh Bornman, Kouga Municipality said teams have been dispatched to affected areas.
"Our storm-water drainage systems cannot handle heavy rain, but we are busy trying to upgrade them. We understand the frustrations of residents and how things tend to be politicised; however, we are doing our best to ensure that we will take care of all residents' needs," Bornman said.
