Elections 2026: Special voting gets underway on Monday

JOHANNESBURG - Special voting for the 2026 Local Government Elections gets underway on Monday, allowing eligible voters who are unable to visit their polling stations on election day to cast their ballots early.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says voters whose special vote applications have been approved can cast their ballots either through a home visit by IEC officials or at their registered voting stations.

The IEC has approved 2.65 million special vote applications this year, representing a 131% increase compared with the 2021 Local Government Elections.
