Eskom worker gets 35-year jail term

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom contract worker Simeon Shongwe has been sentenced to 35 years in prison by the Ermelo District Court.

He deliberately caused over R22-million in damages at the Camden power station in November 2022.

Shongwe will serve 20 years behind bars, with the sentences for tampering with essential infrastructure and theft running concurrently.

Authorities say the conviction sends a strong warning to those involved in sabotage that disrupts public service delivery.
