JOHANNESBURG - Ending the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo will require a political solution, not just a military one.
That’s according to retired Lieutenant General Derrick Mgwebi, who has firsthand experience of the conflict.
He led UN peacekeeping forces in the DRC between 2015 and 2018.
General Mgwebi says there needs to be a political process that addresses the root cause of the conflict.
And the fact that the M23' has returned much stronger than 10 years ago, further complicates the situation.
Mgwebi says a sustained political process, combined with good leadership and intelligence, are needed to end to conflict.
