PRETORIA - A case of extortion has been opened against a senior Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) official who has been at the Madlanga Commission on a watching brief.
The official is alleged to have requested a payment of R5,000 from a complainant.
It was reportedly intended to expedite the complainant’s participation as a witness at the Madlanga Inquiry.

The senior official has been attending proceedings on a watching brief.
IPID has confirmed it has been looking into the matter since the case was opened last week.
The commission is probing deep-rooted corruption and criminality in law enforcement structures.
