DURBAN - National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams will remain in custody until 13 May.
The Member of Parliament made a first appearance before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The case has been postponed for a formal bail application. He will be kept in a secret location until his next court appearance.
The MP was arrested in Cape Town on Tuesday and later transported to Durban.
He has been charged with two counts of defeating the ends of justice and three counts of fraud.
The charges relate to his alleged interference in the Sindiso Magaqa murder probe.

The State alleges that Adams visited Magaqa's killer Sibusiso Ncengwa while he was in custody at Westville Correctional Facility during his trial.
It said it was opposed to the release of Adams on bail, citing his defiant behaviour to adhere to a court order.
But his attorney Bruce Hendricks argued his client had made several unsuccessful attempts to find out from the police if there was indeed a warrant for his arrest.
Hendricks said it was not in the interest of justice to keep Adams in custody as he had minor children.
He also told the court that they had a proof of address and a title deed confirming his Adam’s alternative address.
