VOSLOORUS – Pain, anger and frustration...
This is the new reality faced by the family of four-year-old Samkelisiwe Ngxabi, who was struck down by a waste truck in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.
Samkelisiwe and her mother, Fundiswa Ngxabi, were on their way to catch a taxi to a routine check-up in hospital when tragedy struck.
Fundiswa was carrying the child on her back.
Samkelisiwe died on the scene, her mother is fighting for her life in hospital.
The truck driver is said to have fled the scene.
Fundiswa’s devastated niece, Sandiswa Ngxabi, was on her way to work when she got the tragic news.
Fundiswa’s sister says the family is shattered by the incident. They want answers – and justice for both mother and child.
Councillor Andile Daemane says the waste management company is aware of the incident.
He says the driver fled the scene out of fear of being attacked by the community.
Daemane noted the community’s concerns of reckless drivers who endanger lives.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident and said a case of culpable homicide had been opened.
