BRAKPAN - Marius van der Merwe's family is seeking justice.
Family and friends of the slain whistleblower came together to remember him.
Van der Merwe, who testified as Witness D before the Madlanga Commission, was gunned down outside his home in Brakpan.
Vlam, as he was known to his loved ones, has been remembered as a brave patriot, a loving father and husband, and a dedicated anti-crime activist.
The family says it won't give up on seeking justice for their loved one.
During his testimony at the Madlanga Commission, Van der Merwe accused suspended EMPD Deputy Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi of forcing him to dump the body of 51-year-old Emmanuel Mbense at a nearby dam in Brakpan in 2022.
He alleged Mbense was tortured and tubed during an operation.
At the same time, the Patriotic Alliance in Ekhuruleni says it'll be pushing for the re-vetting of EMPD officers.
For now, police continue with their investigation and hope for arrests while the Van der Merwe family seeks closure.
