EAST LONDON - Eastern Cape police have confirmed that four people are still missing after suspected drownings during the festive season.
But one family is questioning the disappearance of their relative.
Mihle Mbayo, who went missing on Christmas Day, was allegedly swept away by a rip current while swimming near East London.
But his brothers suspect something more sinister is at play.
They are accusing the family he worked for on a farm of a cover-up.
The Mbayo family has spent the past two weeks searching long and far for their missing brother.
It's suspected he was swimming with two other people before a suspected drowning.
His brothers say efforts were made to get information from a family he knew.
They suspect that the mother of the sons Mbayo was with at the time is hiding something.
Mihle Mbayo’s family says the police should focus their investigation on the farm where the 24-year-old used to work, instead of searching for him at sea.
They strongly suspect that he may have been murdered.
The family shared a picture of Mbayo, claiming he may have been choked.
Police who have spent several days searching for Mbayo say it's difficult to try identify a person missing at sea.
eNCA tried to reach out to the family with whom Mihle Mbayo was allegedly last seen, but to no avail.
The woman who is accused of knowing his final whereabouts asked eNCA to leave her premises when we requested her comment.
