Family welcomes repatriation of Nathi Mthethwa's remains

PARIS - The remains of South Africa's ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, will be repatriated on Thursday.

French authorities handed his family the permit yesterday, following the conclusion of a post-mortem.

The 58-year-old diplomat died after falling from the 22nd floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Paris a week ago.

The circumstances around his death are still unclear.

"Obviously, we are elated that finally our brother, the patriot ambassador Mthethwa, will be able to go back to South Africa, to his motherland and to be united with his forefathers when we finally go back," said family spokesperson Sfiso Buthelezi.
