KNYSNA - Former Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa, who was gunned down on 19 August, has been buried.
He was a sitting councillor at the time of his death.
Just a day after Tsengwa was murdered, two more ANC members were shot dead.
They were former councillor Mandla Matiwane and local taxi boss Mandla Tyololo. So far, three people have been arrested.
Tsengwa was shot and killed early this month.
He was on his way home with three passengers in the car when they were ambushed.
So far, three people have been arrested and will return to court on Monday.
ANC Western Cape’s Mcebisi Skwatsha said Tsengwa was well loved.
“One thing you cannot take away from him is the fact that he was well loved, well respected, proven many times. I still remember when he stood in a by-election last year; he swept the floor.
“Even now, as we lay him to rest, we are saddened because we have lost one of our own. He was already a ward candidate of the ANC. And we can only say those few ruthless cowards should really rot in jail when found guilty.
The ANC’s Mondli Gungubele said they did not want to speculate about the motive for Tsengwa's murder and the other two ANC members.
“We are very disturbed, especially when it coincides with a very critical moment of reasserting the role of the ANC to restore its dignity in actually pursuing improvements in the lives of our people.”
“That during this time, when we are trying to select the best leaders at our disposal who can save our people, it coincides with these traumatic developments; it is very hurtful.”
