JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has expelled Members of Parliament Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala.
The party confirmed this on Thursday, saying the decision follows what it calls a series of "acts and conduct" detrimental to the party’s name, reputation and integrity.
“The decision has been taken under the executive authority vested in the office of the president in terms of Section 7(2)(h) of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party’s Constitution... Their membership in the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is therefore terminated with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The party said it had since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to formally communicate the decision and “initiate the necessary process for their subsequent removal from the National Assembly.”
“The party reiterates its commitment to organisational unity, discipline and integrity. All members and structures are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Party Constitution in the interests of unity and comradeship."
