Five killed in Atteridgeville shooting

PRETORIA - Five people have been killed outside a tuckshop in Atteridgeville, West of Pretoria.

Police say the shooting happened in an informal settlement.

SAPS Tshwane District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, says four people were shot outside the shop, while one person was shot while exiting the shop and died inside the shop.

The motive is still unknown.

“It is unconfirmed information relating to what the motive is,” Thine said.

“The witness statement and information will indicate to us if the issue is related to extortion because it is not coming out clearly.”

SAPS says the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigations, as well as Forensic Crime Scene Management, Crime Intelligence and Provincial Tracking Team are processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.

A case of five counts of murder will be registered.
