JOHANNESBURG - A student building collapsed in Doornfontein, Johannesburg, on Monday.
Johannesburg Emergency Metropolitan Service (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says four people have been injured following the incident
Of those, three were working around the building, while the fourth is confirmed to be a student who is a resident in the building.
Mulaudzi says emergency services are on scene to ensure that nobody is still in the building, but indicates that information received upon arrival at the scene revealed that everyone inside had accounted for.
"There is no indication that someone could be trapped. But we want to remove any uncertainty around the incident by making sure that we remove the rubble.
Residents from the building said they were alerted by a loud sound of an explosion and smoke in the building.
They say emergency services responded to the scene where they were evacuated from the building.
Mulaudzi says circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire will be investigated this includes ensuring that there are no gas leaks around the building.
