Gana brushes off critics, looking forward to new responsibility

CAPE TOWN - Parliament's freshly-elected Section 89 Impeachment Committee chair, Makashule Gana, says it's in South Africa's interest for the truth to be known.

The ANC, DA and other GNU members voted in favour of the Rise Mzansi MP over Wonderboy Mahlatsi from the United Africans Transformation party.

The committee is probing whether the President has a case to answer, following the theft of foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm back in 2020.

''The work has began, now section 89 committee has been constituted, it has a chairperson which is myself…I look forward to chair this important committee, it’s a first in democratic in SA, the work should produce kind of report to stand legal scrutiny," Gana said.

He said the Committee's interest was to ensure that the truth is known.

"It’s not a Makashule report, but a committee’s. Anyone who did not support me, it’s now done. We need to work. It’s not a committee to grandstand but work."
