KARIEGA - Gang violence in Kariega has turned so violent that people are opting to leave, even abandoning their homes.
At least 33 families have left the Joe Slovo area of the Eastern Cape town.
A community leader says gang members intimidate and terrorise anyone who speaks out against crime.
Anti-crime patrollers and witnesses are also being targeted.
The Nelson Mandela District police commissioner says that due to the fear this community lives in, no one has come forward to report the criminals.
