JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth online application process for the 2027 academic year.
The official application period for Grade 1 and 8 admissions for the 2027 academic year opens on 5 August 2026 and will close on 4 September 2026 at 12am.
Glitches have previously marred the system and left parents frustrated and thousands of pupils unplaced at the beginning of the year.
About 400 000 Grade 1 and 8 pupils were placed during the 2025 admission cycle.
The department is urging parents and guardians to familiarise themselves with the online application process.
It also warned against individuals who promise school placements in exchange for money.
