Gauteng allocates R104m to combat foot-and-mouth disease

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Veterinary Services is accelerating its fight against foot-and-mouth disease.

It's committing a massive R104-million to the effort.

The allocation comes on the heels of a new outbreak confirmed on a commercial farm in the Free State, pushing the total to over 270 outbreaks across five provinces.

Gauteng Agriculture and Rural Development MEC, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, insists this is a proactive move aimed at staying ready, not reacting in panic."
