Gauteng government condemns vandalism ahead of G20 Summit

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Government is condemning what it calls deliberate and coordinated acts of vandalism targeting recently upgraded public infrastructure in Johannesburg.

Officials say the damage includes the destruction of new G20 signage near Nasrec, as well as vandalised streetlights and traffic signals along the R55.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi described the attacks as a deliberate campaign to undermine the province and the country.

Lesufi says these are not petty crimes.

He says government is working with all national security structures to investigate, identify, and fully prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.

Lesufi stressed that Gauteng is ready to host the G20 Summit safely and successfully, and warned there will be zero tolerance for any disruption.
