JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has suspended the Head of the Health Department, Lesiba Malotana, with immediate effect.
Lesufi has appointed Dr Darion Barclay to act in the position.
While the Premier does not mention the reasons for this suspension, Malotana has been under fire for several allegations.
The HOD has also been implicated in alleged tender rigging, with the Special Investigating Unit probing two multi-million rand contracts in which he may have participated.
In addition, the Health Department's poor performance has seen it underspend by R725-million in the last financial year.
