George vs DA: Counter-accusations started

JOHANNESBURG - DA Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille says it is unfortunate that Dr. Dion George resigned from the party before he could answer to a pending disciplinary before the DA’s Federal Legal Commission.

On Thursday, in an eNCA exclusive, George dropped a bombshell by announcing his resignation from the DA.

He is accusing party leader John Steenhuisen of being a sell-out.

George, who was the DA's Federal Finance Chairperson before quitting the party, was removed as Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Minister in November over what he calls false claims.

George says the party betrayed him and he feels that Steenhuisen is captured.

George also stressed that he was the one who took away Steenhuisen's DA credit card.

He says this was due to irreconcilable transactions.

Uber Eats, petrol and hotel accommodation were on that list of questionable purchases.

However, Zille says it would have been preferable for George to go through the DA’s Federal Legal Commission process to test the veracity of the allegations against him.

According to Zille, these allegations include;

She listed the allegations as follows;

1. Allegations that staff appointments to his Ministerial office were done in a way that unjustifiably raised their salaries, at public expense;

2. Allegations that staff in his ministry sought departmental information to pursue internal party political matters; and

3. Bringing the party into disrepute through the media.

Zille says the rest of the FLC process will proceed as determined by the DA’s Federal Executive on Monday.

In his exclusive bombshell interview George alluded to the DA trumping up charges against him and that the mudslinging would now start.

He also denies the allegations against him.
