JOHANNESBURG - A Grade 3 pupil has died at Lerutle Primary School in Daveyton after a wall collapsed during the school's break time.
Preliminary reports show that a section of the school wall collapsed during break on Thursday falling onto six learners. According to Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the learners were left with severe injuries.

Of the six, one of the pupils succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention in hospital.
Mabona says that the circumstances surrounding the collapse is currently under investigation.
He says the department has deployed psycho-social support teams to provide counselling and emotional support to affected learners, educators, and the bereaved family.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and the loss of such a young life," said Education MEC Matome Chiloane.
"We will ensure that the necessary support is provided and that the circumstances surrounding this incident are determined," he added.
