Hawks cop, nurse face corruption charges

PRETORIA - The Hawks says it's clamping down on corrupt officials.

A sergeant from the unit has appeared in court alongside a nurse from the Tembisa Hospital.

The pair is accused of bribing the investigating officer probing corruption at the hospital, offering him R100,000.

Chisele is a nurse at Tembisa Hospital, under investigation following the revelation that R2-billion was looted at the hospital.

It's alleged that Chisele approached Tsie to help him bribe the investigating officer, in an attempt to avoid prosecution.

The Hawks then set up a trap.

The state says it now needs to profile whether Chisele and Tsie might intimidate witnesses in preparation for their bail application

The two have been remanded in custody.

They will be back in court on 2 December 2025.
