Helen Joseph Hospital | Health authorities ordered to rectify glaring problems

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department must urgently appoint an independent forensic and audit firm to conduct an assessment of the leadership and management staff at Helen Joseph Hospital to check if they are fit for purpose.

That's according to a scathing report released by the Health Ombudsman which was handed over to the Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi.

The report comes after a series of viral videos on social media which highlighted the shocking state of the facility.

The main recommendations in the report are that the Gauteng Health Department urgently fill key priority positions and that the Premier of Gauteng ensures that the hospital be prioritised for refurbishment within six months.

Motsoaledi says he will ensure that the Gauteng Health Department follows the recommendations to ensure the hospital delivers quality healthcare services.
