JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested hundreds of people across the country as protests over illegal immigration surged.
Nearly 250 arrests were made in the Eastern Cape alone, including 200 undocumented foreign nationals.
Their crimes range from looting shops to inciting public violence.
Police are also investigating a death in Durban linked to a break-in at a storage facility. In Hammarsdale, Five people, aged between 14 and 27 were arrested in connection with a business burglary and malicious damage to property.
Meanwhile, ten others were arrested after a shop was looted in Delft, Cape Town.
Authorities say operations are continuing in several hotspots.
