PRETORIA - The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) is treading with caution in the appointment of an acting head following the resignation of Andrea Johnson.
According to Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, who briefed the media on Thursday, she has requested vetting to avoid any problems that have recently emerged within the unit.
“We are in the process of actually ensuring that the post is filled fully. So, we're hoping before the end of the week or by next week to have an acting head,” Kubayi said.
Detailing the process of finding and electing an acting head, Kubayi said they would normally take from the current employees within the organization, but she remains hesitant to do so this time around.
Instead, she said the acting head candidate would likely be drawn from outside IDAC and within the NPA.
Even then, that person would still have to undergo vetting.
“I do want to say I was uncomfortable at the moment to take anyone who is second in command, after Advocate Johnson in IDAC,” she said.
