JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has filed papers in court in response to the ANC’s legal challenge over its candidate lists.
At the centre of the dispute are candidate submissions for six municipalities in the Eastern Cape, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.
The ANC says it submitted its candidates through the IEC’s electronic system before the 28 August deadline.

But the party argues that technical glitches disrupted the submission process and says it should not be penalised for what it describes as system failures.
Meanwhile, the ANC is also opposing an application by the DA to intervene in the Electoral Court case.
