JOHANNESBURG -While the ANC celebrates Constitutional Court success, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has long appointments with the printing press.
IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya said ballot papers now have to include the 181 ANC candidate names that were initially left out.
This means that the reprinting process must get underway.
“We welcome the decision of the court and we now need to go and get the ballots reprinted where they have been printed and to get the work completed as we should,” Moepya said.
He further added that the material has to be ready for the local government elections, which take place in three weeks.
“Let me remind you, we have an election in 20 days' time in the country and the first ballot must be cast in 18 days and that's what we need to go and do,” Moepa explained.
During a briefing on Wednesday, the commission's CEO, Sy Mamabolo, indicated that more than 66% of the 79 million ballot papers required for the upcoming 4 November local government elections had alreadt been printed.
