IEC officials have nothing to worry about – elections analyst

JOHANNESBURG - Elections analyst Terry Tselane is confident that the IEC has nothing to worry about with a pending legal challenge.

The ANC is considering approaching the Electoral Court, over missing Friday’s deadline to nominate some candidates.

The party cited technical glitches on the electoral commission's website.

“I think it's going to be extremely difficult for any of the political parties that feels that the so-called glitches that may have happened would actually act in their favor.

“Absolutely nothing that would allow the Commission to do so. And I think the Commission is actually protected by those two judgments, the Electoral Court judgment as well as the Constitutional Court.

“I think it's officials really can sleep at night knowing that whatever decision that they're taking is consistent with the decisions that have already been made by both the Electoral Court and the Constitutional Court.

“And besides, they are protected also by the legislation. So they should not actually be having sleepless nights on this issue because as I've indicated, they're protected by the legislation as well as the judgments of the Electoral Court as well as the Constitutional Court.”
