Investigation underway into underground cable fire in Joburg CBD

JOHANNESBURG - An underground cable fire brought parts of Joburg CBD to a standstill over the weekend.

The blaze broke out just before midday on Saturday near Raheema Moosa and Harrison Street.

Some roads were closed and parts of the city were left in darkness.

No injuries were reported, but the cause is still under investigation.

This comes as the city also battles a rise in kidnapping cases.

Law enforcement is urging heightened vigilance as Gauteng appears to be becoming a hotspot for syndicates.

MMC for Public Safety, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, said the blaze was brought under control.
