JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will be investigating Feroz Khan's arrest.
Khan was arrested on Sunday following a high-profile raid at his Houghton apartment.
However, police allegedly first went to the wrong apartment of a man also known as Feroz.
In the mix-up, they broke down the man's door to enter his apartment.
After the faux pas was identified, they moved on to the correct door.
The arrest was part of a major operation targeting an alleged illicit precious metals syndicate.
Major-Generals Khan and Ebrahim Kadwa, as well as businessman Tariq Downes, appeared at the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They were each granted R20,000 bail under the conditions that they not interfere with the investigations, or, contact witnesses.
The State did not oppose the granting of bail.
They are also required to hand in their passports to the investigative officer on or before 12 May.
They are also required to alert the investigating officer within 72 hours if they intend to travel.
The case has been postponed to 14 July for further investigations.
Khan's former father-in-law, who came to support him, is upset at how his former son-in-law was being treated.
