Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma opens case over alleged social media threat

DURBAN - March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has opened a case against a man who allegedly posted a threatening message on social media calling for her to be raped and killed.

The post was published on the man’s Facebook profile earlier this week but has since been deleted.

Ngobese-Zuma opened a case against the individual at Durban Central Police Station on Tuesday.

The alleged remarks have drawn condemnation from the ANC, which said there was no justification for calls for violence against any person.

In a statement, the party said it condemned the remarks “in the strongest possible terms”, describing them as inconsistent with the organisation’s values and political culture.

“There can never be political, personal or ideological justification for incitement to rape, murder or any form of violence against another person,” the ANC said.

The party has called on law enforcement authorities to investigate the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the post.

The ANC also said that if the individual is found to be a member of the organisation, its internal disciplinary processes should be allowed to take their course.
