JOHANNESBURG - The N12 has been closed in both directions, affecting traffic travelling out of Soweto, Lenasia and Eldorado Park.
The closures are in place between Abu Baker Asvat Drive and K43 Klipspruit Valley in Lenasia.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says the exact cause of the blockage is unclear, but it suspects it may be service delivery-related.
JMPD officers are on-site managing traffic and diverting vehicles away from the affected sections of the road.
Motorists travelling through Lenasia, Eldorado Park and surrounding areas are urged to exercise caution and expect delays.
Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes to bypass the closures:
* R554 (Nirvana Drive)
* Golden Highway (R553)
* Chris Hani Road/Main Road through Soweto and Eldorado Park
* Impala Road
