KOUGA - Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina's meeting with the Kouga community descended into chaos.
Profanities were exchanged between Majodina and a community member during a launch of an upgraded pump station.
This was a dramatic turn of events which left the community in shock.
A community member who was being escorted out of the venue said "jou ma se ****" to Majodina and she responded by saying "Phuma! Jou ma se **** ook."
eNCA spoke to Kyle Minnaar, an administrator in the Kouga Municipality, who detailed the heated meeting with the community.
According to Minnaar, the day started with the launch before moving to government community engagement.
Minnaar said, two serious concerns came out of that meeting, the first being that the meeting was heavily politicised and the second was the chaos which erupted.
“During the Q&A session, a resident who was forced out of the hall was disagreeing with another resident who was talking. I suppose he talked out of turn when the Minister requested that this resident be removed from the hall. Whilst he was walking out of the hall, she passed the insult.”
Minnaar said he was disappointed with the Minister.
He said while he notes that the community member who was escorted out may have been guilty of speaking out of turn, but that is not enough reason for the Minister to respond in that manner.
“It's disappointing to see a Minister act in such a fashion, disrespecting a member of the community but also the entire community," he said.
