JOHANNESBURG - The last two of the suspects in the R15-million precious stones theft case are set to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and a woman known as Witness K spent the weekend behind bars following their Friday arrest.
Testifying before the Madlanga Commission, Witness K named Mkhwanazi as the mastermind behind the gemstone theft, which was disguised as a police operation.
Three other suspects were arrested in the same case last week.
Charges against one suspect were withdrawn. The other two are out on R5,000 bail each.
Witness K also told the commission she is Mkhwanazi's ex-girlfriend.
Although she testified in-camera before the commission, Witness K’s identity may be revealed if the court allows media coverage of today’s proceedings.
